Do Less and Obsess. Get Clearer on Your Offers & Attract More Clients.

While reading “Great at Work (How Top Performers Do Less, Work Better and Achieve More)” by Morten T. Hansen, I came across the theory of “do less and obsess”. The idea of growing your business by going all in on the core things you actually want to offer, rather than trying to do more and speak to everyone in your business.

This idea made me go 🤯 because it goes against our human programming of doing more to achieve more.

As solopreneurs and small business owners, we can become so caught up in trying to please everybody.

We are constantly trying to add more services based on what we think our clients want, or find ourselves exhausted trying to keep up with being on the latest social media platform.

But the idea of do less and obsess tells us to scale back our offers and stop leaking our energy in the places that don’t excite us as much.

Instead of trying to offer 5 different services as a solopreneur or creating content for each social platform, bring it back to just one or two and obsess over being the best at them.

Become known as the go-to person in your field for one thing, instead of becoming lost in a maze as someone who is just average at many things.

Because let’s face it, we can only do so much here in these human bodies of ours.

If we’re multi-tasking and spreading ourselves too thin, then we’re really not going to be able to be perfect at anything, or even above average.

But if we go all in and obsess over one thing, then our audience feels that from us. And people buy from a place of emotion, not from a long list of services and offers.

Doing less and obsessing doesn’t mean that you can’t scale your business either…

Think of Amazon. They are a worldwide corporation known for giving people anything and everything.

But to get to that point, they obsessed over books.

That’s right, incase you forgot, in the late 90s - early 2000’s, Amazon was an online book dealer.

Their obsession worked. They figured out how to ship books across the world and became masters at it.

It was only at this time that they were able to expand their energy beyond that.

If Amazon started out trying to speak to everybody and sell everything, it would have taken WAY more energy and resources to get to where they are today. The plan may have completely failed altogether.

Do less and obsess is the approach to take when you’re looking to become a strong leader in your niche, scale your business, speak to more people (by speaking to less), and get clear on your offers.

BIG Takeaway:

When you try to speak to everyone, you speak to no one.

Your best bet at attracting and scaling will come from a place of excitement, passion and authenticity.

Go all in on the area that you know you can rock it in.

Do less and obsess.
